Metcalf Paces OHS Hoops Squad

OSWEGO, NY – Jake Metcalf paced the varsity Buc basketball team to its first win of the year while the bowling and wresting teams were in action on Tuesday night.

The Oswego varsity boy’s basketball team defeated home standing Central Square, 52 – 43 on Tuesday (Dec. 14).

The visiting Bucs started slowly, trailing by five after one quarter, 14 – 9.

Behind the strong inside play of Tim Edgar and Metcalf the Bucs were able to outscore the Red Hawks 13 – 11 in the second quarter and trailed at half by three.

The teams played evenly in the third quarter, ending with Central Square leading 36 – 32.

The game was decided in a pivotal fourth quarter, which Oswego dominated.

The Bucs made 11 of 12 free throws and outscored the Red Hawks 20-7 in the fourth.  Very strong team defense and rebounding limiting Central Square to one shot per possession were keys to the victory.

Leading the scoring was senior captain Metcalf with 21 points (10 of 12 from FT line); Josh Gillard added 9, Tim Edgar 8, Dustin Sands 6, Mike Thompson 4, and Ryan Patrick and Corey Galletta 2 each.

Connor Riley and Josh McRae added strong defense and rebounding to the effort.

With the win, the Bucs evened their record at 1 – 1, and host visiting Baldwinsville on Friday (Dec. 17), in Powers Gym.

Wrestlers Fall to Central Square

Oswego varsity wrestlers host Paul V. Moore High School from Central Square and lost a 71-8 verdict.

Mike Ruggio of the Bucs pinned Randy Martin in 5:50 while Dan Ellingwood gained a 7-3 decision over Garrett Claffey. Ruggio wrestled at 160 and Ellingwood 171.

In other action, at 119 Jordan Attwood lost via a pin in 4:17 to Jerrett Norton while at 125 Matt DiFabio was pinned in 44 seconds by Brandon Engebretsen. At 135 Jordan Pulff was pinned in 4:09  by Nicholas LaFlair while Joey Ruggio lost at 140 to Ronald Burghart by a 12-0 count. Eric Susino-Acton, at 152, was pinned in 2:33 by Spencer Norton. At 215 Jacob Rodriguez lost a tight 2-1 verdict to Tyler Winn.

Oswego forfeited at 102, 112, 130, 145 and 189.

Bowling Action

Both the Oswego boys’ and girls’ bowling team earned one win and two losses against Liverpool.

For the Bucs Cameron Byrne had a 690 series, Matt Clemons 676 and Zach Delbrocco 628 while Gavin Gilbert had a 593. Jimmy Rose had two games for a total of 340 while Dan Cliff had a 154 single game.

In girls’ action Christie Hoefer had a 413, Paige Blum 401, Ashlee Lytle 375, and Cortney Bartlett 240.

Jayvees Win Four Matches

The Oswego High School jayvee wrestling squad won all four matches against Central Square.

Colton Dryden decision Jake Fortune 6-0 at 152 while at 160 Adam Doviak had a 12-3 major decision over Avery Sigle. Colt Simmons, at 171, gained a 38 second pin of Shane Hirch and Tyler Henry, at 189, decisioned Brandon Burghart 16-13.
