Offense Keeps Clicking As Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Wells 23-5

The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team held a two-goal lead early in the first half before distancing themselves from Wells with seven straight goals on the way to a 23-5 victory on Wednesday afternoon in Oswego. The Lakers had ten different players score goals, including six posting multi-goal performances, with Bri Borrow (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) leading the way with five goals to go along with one assist. Oswego State, which improved to 2-3 overall, will open SUNYAC play on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Cortland at 1 p.m. The Express fell to 3-4 with the loss.

The Lakers took an early 3-0 lead behind a pair of goals from Kristen Darcy (So., East Syracuse, N.Y.) and a score from Borrow before Wells responded with a goal of its own. Both teams traded scores until Oswego State had its deciding scoring stretch midway through the first half that gave the Lakers an 11-2 lead. Maria Martusewicz (Jr., Redwood, N.Y.) fueled the string with three unassisted goals. Head coach Brandi Ostrander’s squad went on to hold a 16-4 lead at halftime.

Oswego State out-scored the Express 7-1 in the second half to cruise to the 23-5 victory. Darcy finished the game with four goals, while Marisa Audley (Sr., Liverpool, N.Y.) joined Martusewicz with a hat trick. Other Laker goal scorers included Kelly Collins (So., Fairport, N.Y.) and Amanda Hecox (Jr., New Hartford, N.Y.) with two goals apiece followed by Kelly Schroeder (Jr., Warwick, N.Y.), Jackie Cook (So., Webster, N.Y.), and Jessica Zenzel (Sr., Johnson City, N.Y.) with a goal each.

In her first collegiate appearance, Laker goalie Lauren Marois (Fr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) stopped seven shots and allowed five goals for the win. Wells goalie Elizabeth Barclay registered nine saves
