OHS Hockey Team Wins 10th; Keefe Solid Indoors

OSWEGO, NY – It was a relatively quiet weekend for Oswego athletes as the hockey team won a rescheduled Sunday afternoon game against Whitesboro and the indoor track team was in action

Seventh League Win for Icers

The Oswego boys’ ice hockey team scored a decisive 7-2 win over Whitesboro on Sunday afternoon at Crisafulli Rink to boost the season record to 7-3 in league action and 10-4 overall.

The victory set the stage for a very important week for the Bucs as the next two opponents, Cazenovia and Clinton, are first and second in the Division II standings as the regular season begins to wind down.

Coach Andy Rozak said, “It was a very physical game against Whitesboro. We came out and capitalized on our power play opportunities in the first period and built a 4-1 lead. We played a sound overall game.”

Continuing he said, “Both our power play and penalty killing did a great job for us today. In goal Chase Izyk had another solid game with 23 saves.”

The defense surrendered just one goal in the first and another in the second, but after two periods the Bucs had built up a commanding 6-2 lead.

John Phillips and Fred Donabella each had two goals for the Bucs while Josh Sova, Cody Mariano and Sean Moody also scored.

Donabella and Mariano finished with two assists apiece while also earning assists were Dave Walpole, Eric Dunsmoor, Austin Tracz and Izyk.

Whitesboro goalies combined for 32 saves with Ryan Smith having four saves while giving up three goals and Tyler Garcia had 28 saves while surrendering four goals in his nearly 32 minutes in net.

Keefe Strong Indoors

Sophomore standout Cory Keefe, turned in an outstanding performance for the Oswego indoor track team, at the Section 3 Track and Field Championships, held Sunday at Hamilton College.

Keefe finished second in the 55 meter hurdles for the Bucs, with an outstanding time of 8.33.

In the 55 meter dash, Keefe turned in a fine personal best time of 6.83, to place sixth among the section’s elite.

Keefe will advance to the Section 3 State Meet Qualifier, on Feb. 24, in hopes of earning a berth in the upcoming New York State Track and Field Championships, to be held on March 5 at Cornell University.
