OHS Swimmers, Hockey Teams Win

OSWEGO, NY – Swimmers and hockey teams were successful this week in picking up victories while the wrestling team had a tough match against its opponent.

Swimmers Win

The Oswego High School boys’ swimming team is off to a fast start with a 98-76 win over the Syracuse Lightning in the latest outing.

The Bucs dominated the victory podium with 10 wins on the day.

The Bucs (2-1)  came out quickly and captured the 200-yard medley relay  (1:47.10) with Luke Familo, Zach Gerber, Sean Stegemoller, and Drake Becksted.

Oswego also won  the 400 free relay in 3:26.61 with Becksted, Reeve Callen, Gerber, and Stegemoller.
Becksted and Callen  added two wins each in individual events.

Becksted placed first in the 50 free (21.20) and a school record time in the  100 butterfly (52.36).

Callen won the 200 free (1:50.99) and the 100 free (49.39).

Other first-place finishers for Oswego in individual events were Gerber in the 200 medley (2:18.37), Austin Demott in diving, James Dillon in the 500 free (5:51.58), and Familo in the 100 backstroke (1:05.52).

Getting second-place finishes for Oswego were Familo in the 200 medley, Stegemoller in the 50 free, Gerber in the 100 fly, and the 400 free relay team of Kyle Kunzwiler, Familo, Geoff Taylor, and Zach Handley.
Taking thirds for the Bucs were Josh Saternow in the 200 free, Taylor in the 200 medley, and Handley in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Buc Blank New Hartford

The Oswego High School boys’ hockey team moved to 3-3 in league play with a convincing 5-1 win over defending state champion New Hartford.

The Bucs dominated action as Austin Tracz and Cody Mariano had two goals apiece and the other was scored by Fred Donabella.

Josh Sova had two assists on the night while other assists were chalked up by Dan Maniccia, Matt Lloyd, Chris Pike, John Phillips and Donabella.

In the net, sophomore goalkeeper Chase Izyk was credited with 32 saves.

Oswego returns to action today (Jan. 7) at Crisafulli Rink against Auburn at 6 p.m.

Lady Bucs Hockey Team Wins

A four-goal outburst in the second period propelled the Oswego varsity girls’ hockey team to a 4-2 win over Alex Bay on Thursday at Campus Center Ice Arena.

Sophomore Sarah Mancuso netted two of the goals, while seniors Devyn Hutcheson and Karissa Favata tallied the others.

It was a scoreless first period, but Oswego exploded for four second period goals as Alex Bay goalie Caitlin Russell was pressured.

Getting assists for the Bucs (3-3 league, 4-4 overall) were Danielle Faivus, Caty Darling, Kaitlin Friel, and Erika Lazzaro.

Freshman goalie Madisyn Whalen stopped 20 shots.

Oswego’s next outing will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Crisafulli Rink when Lake Placid invades.

Grapplers Lose to Genny

The Oswego varsity wrestling team lost 63-6 to West Genesee.

Adam Doviak of Oswego, at 160, decisioned Evan Stefano 9-2 and 189 pound Mike Ruggio decisioned Sean Fronce 8-1 for the lone Oswego points.

Jordan Attwood, at 119, was pinned by Ian Coolcan while at 130 Matt DiFabio was pinned in 1:03 by Tyler Heggelke. Jordan Pluff, at 135, lost via a pin to Jon Fetterolf. Eric Susino-Acton, at 152, lost 13-7 to Cody Ward.  Dan Ellingwood, at 171, lost to Matt Nichols in a thrilling 1-0 decision.  AT 215, Jacob Rodriguez lost 8-2 to James Borgardus.

In jayvee action, both Oswego wrestlers lost as 160 pounder Colt Simmons lost a major 13-1 decision to Anthony Scarrino and Tyler Henry lost, at 171, to Matt Kemp via a pin in 3:25. missing or outdated ad config
