The Oswego Lady Bucs hosted Rome in their final home meet of the season Friday night and gained a 98-79 win.

The meet was a positive collection of close races and fast times for the Lady Bucs.

The 200 medley relay team of senior Emily Fountain, junior Iveliz Lopez, sophomore Meredith Moshier, and eighth grader Chrissy Abare started Oswego out with a lead by winning the first event.  In the second event, the 200 yard freestyle, seniors Mo Donovan (2:08.31) and Emily Fountain (2:17.59) placed first and second with lifetime best times.  Junior Sarah Miller (2:17.59) actually tied Fountain for second, to lead the Bucs to a 1-2-3 finish.

Sophomore Haley Annal dropped two seconds to win the next event, the 200 yard individual medley in 2:33.06.  Fellow sophomore Michaela Auer won the following event, the 50 yard freestyle, in 26.67.  Junior Laura O’Brien won the diving competition with a score of 172 points.  Although Rome won the next event, the 100 yard butterfly, sophomore Meredith Moshier placed third in a lifetime best of 1:15.66, and freshman Kaylie Allen also finished in a lifetime best time of 1:23.18.  Sophomore Michaela Auer (58.77) on the 100 yard freestyle in a lifetime best and junior Iveliz Lopez placed second in an in season best time of 59.19.

Senior Mo Donovan became a double winner with her first place finish in the 500 yard freestyle.  Sophomore Mara Parker swam the event for the first time this season and dropped almost 45 seconds off of her best time last season.  The 6:07.24 effort earned her second place in the event and qualified her for Sectional’s for the first time in the event.  Freshman Michaela Kearns dropped another seven seconds off of her best time to place fourth in the event with a time of 6:27.02.

Other notable swims from Friday’s meet include: Junior Iveliz Lopez qualifying for Sectional’s in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.72.

Coach Josh Lerch said, “With this accomplishment, Iveliz has successfully made the Sectional cut time in all eight individual events.  This is a feat that no girl on the Oswego varsity swim team has accomplished in any of the previous four years.”

Freshman Kaylie Allen had another lifetime best swim in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:30.94).  In the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay, Senior Emily Fountain, sophomores Hayley Annal and Meredith Moshier, and freshman Kaila McClelland all swam best times to finish the meet well.

Coach Josh Lerch said, “Even though one of our talented seniors, Katie Metcalf, was unable to compete in the meet, I don’t think that we could have asked for a better meet to celebrate our senior co captains.  Mo Donovan won both of her individual events and led two relays to victory, and Emily Fountain qualified for Sectional’s in the 200 yard freestyle for the first time ever, in addition to leading three relays to victory.  A majority of the remaining swimmers on the team also performed well, swimming lifetime bests and dropping lots of time.  I really wish that this season was longer, like a college swimming season, because I think that these girls would just keep improving at the impressive rate that they are currently.”

The win boosted Oswego’s record to 7-5. missing or outdated ad config
