Oswego Girls Take Swim Meet Over West Genny

By coach Josh Lerch

Oswego swam a good meet tonight with West Genesee and managed to come out on top.  The meet was very close until junior Laura O’Brien took first place points in the diving competition with a lifetime best score of 164.25.  Following that, Oswego’s depth, along with some key first place finishes, helped to extend the lead and hold it until the end of the meet.

The Lady Bucs had some outstanding swims at the meet.  Starting with the first individual event, junior Iveliz Lopez (2:11.87), sophomores Mara Parker (2:17.48) and Meredith Moshier (2:22.86) all finished with lifetime bests in the 200 yard freestyle.  Sophomore Michaela Auer was a double winner, placing first in both the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard breaststroke.  Sophomore Haley Annal won the 100 yard butterfly in a lifetime best of 1:10.96.  Junior Iveliz Lopez (6:02.72) and freshman Kaila McClelland (6:10.55) placed first and second respectively in the 500 yard freestyle to extend Oswego’s lead.  Freshman Michaela Kearns also swam the 500 in an outstanding personal best time of 6:42.00, a drop of 16 seconds from our last meet.

We are just about halfway through the season right now and I couldn’t be happier with the way that the girls are performing.  They are training hard and racing harder.  The existing leadership and the future leaders on the team are guiding the younger swimmers in and out of the pool.  About 70% of the girls on the team have already qualified for Sectional’s and I’m confident that we will be closer to 100% by the end of the dual meet season if the girls keep working as hard as they have been.
