Oswego Men Deliver Late Heroics in 3-2 Win Over Buffalo State

BUFFALO, NY—Sixth-ranked Oswego State (5-1-0 overall, 3-0-0 SUNYAC) scored twice in the final 1:33 of regulation, and sophomore forward Chris Laganiere (Owego, NY) scored in overtime as the Lakers rallied to beat Buffalo State College (3-5-0, 2-2-0), 3-2, in a SUNYAC game Saturday night at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.

Cory Park (Mississauga, ONT) opened the scoring for the Bengals with a power-play goal midway through the first period, and then assisted on a Joe Curry (Indian River, ONT) goal just 1:05 into the second frame to give Buffalo State a 2-0 lead.

The Bengals held the two-goal advantage until junior defenseman Tyler Lyon (Foxboro, ONT) scored with an assist from Ryan Ellis (Georgetown, ONT) with just 1:33 remaining in the third period.  Buffalo State sent a man to the penalty box on a slashing penalty with just 19 seconds remaining, and Ellis, the third star of the game, scored for the Lakers six seconds later to even the score.

Buffalo State was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind 1:51 into overtime, and Laganiere, the game’s first star, ended the game with a power-play marker from Matt Whitehead (Newmarket, ONT) 3:30 into the extra session.

Oswego outshot Buffalo State, 37-20.  Zach Grasley (Ancater, ONT) made 34 saves for the Bengals, and freshman Paul Beckwith (Cleveland, OH) had 18 stops for the Lakers.
