BUFFALO, NYâ€â€ÂSixth-ranked Oswego State (5-1-0 overall, 3-0-0 SUNYAC) scored twice in the final 1:33 of regulation, and sophomore forward Chris Laganiere (Owego, NY) scored in overtime as the Lakers rallied to beat Buffalo State College (3-5-0, 2-2-0), 3-2, in a SUNYAC game Saturday night at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
Cory Park (Mississauga, ONT) opened the scoring for the Bengals with a power-play goal midway through the first period, and then assisted on a Joe Curry (Indian River, ONT) goal just 1:05 into the second frame to give Buffalo State a 2-0 lead.
The Bengals held the two-goal advantage until junior defenseman Tyler Lyon (Foxboro, ONT) scored with an assist from Ryan Ellis (Georgetown, ONT) with just 1:33 remaining in the third period. Buffalo State sent a man to the penalty box on a slashing penalty with just 19 seconds remaining, and Ellis, the third star of the game, scored for the Lakers six seconds later to even the score.
Buffalo State was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind 1:51 into overtime, and Laganiere, the game’s first star, ended the game with a power-play marker from Matt Whitehead (Newmarket, ONT) 3:30 into the extra session.
Oswego outshot Buffalo State, 37-20. Zach Grasley (Ancater, ONT) made 34 saves for the Bengals, and freshman Paul Beckwith (Cleveland, OH) had 18 stops for the Lakers.
Oswego returns to the Campus Center Ice Arena on Friday, Nov. 14 for a 7 p.m. SUNYAC matchup with Morrisville State College.
