Oswego Snowbelt Squirt 1 Hockey Team Scores 7-2 Win Over Thousand Islands

Oswego, NY – The Oswego Snowbelt Squirt 1 Hockey team opened up their hockey season this past weekend with a 7-2 win over visiting Thousand Islands.

Oswego’s Aiden Taylor led the Bucs with four goals, and Spencer Stepien added two goals and two assists. Goalie Ethan Rando made 20 saves in capturing his first win of theseason.

Taylor got the scoring started at the 11:14 mark of the first period off an assist from Stepien.

After Thousand Islands tied the game 1-1, Stepien scored on a wrist shot past the goaltender at 3:39 of the first period following an assist from Brandon Demling. Stepien would add another goal to start the second period after Alex Thorpe found him in front of the net to give Oswego a 3-1 lead.

The Thousand Islands squad would add their only other goal with two minutes left in the second period, before Oswego’s Taylor and Alex Vescio scored the remaining four goals off of assists from Tyler May, Derek Sabatini, Stepien and Demling, to make it 7-2.

“I was very proud of the team and how well they played together in our opening game,” said Oswego Head Coach Dan Taylor. “The kids played strong on both ends of the ice, and this was truly a great team win.”

According to Taylor, the strong defensive efforts and overall play of Cole Cullinan, Bryson Bush, JJ Harter, Joe Palmer, and Billy Waterbury also aided in the victory.
