Oswego State Cross Country Has Strong Showing At Oswego Invitational

The Oswego State cross country team turned in strong performances at its own meet with a third place finish by the men’s squad and a fourth place finish by the women’s squad on Saturday.

The Laker men tallied 83 points well ahead of Alfred University, which was in fourth place with 133 points. Cortland State captured the team title with 21 points followed by Ithaca with 35 points. The Oswego State women recorded 110 points as Ithaca grabbed team honors with 15 points. Alfred University edged out Cortland for second place with 69 points compared to 74 points for the Red Dragons.

Junior Mike Bott (Camillus, N.Y.) not only turned in the top time for the Lakers in the 6K Don Masterson race at 20:28, but set a new school record in the distance. The previous record was 20:32 set by Weston Fellows in 2005. Rachel Sanborn (Fr., Liberty, N.Y.) was the first Oswego female across the finish line for the second straight race with a time of 18:10 in the 4.5K Pat Peterson race. The Lakers return to competition on Saturday, September 26 at the Houghton College Invitational.
