Oswego State Cross Country Teams Wrap Up Season At NCAA Atlantic Regionals

CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up the 2011 season with 14th- and 24th-place finishes, respectively, at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon. The Lakers recorded 424 points in the 40-team men’s race and 725 points in the 36-team women’s race. The host Saints took home the team trophies in both men’s and women’s competitions with 89 and 77 points, respectively.

Dylan Hardwick (Sr., Watertown, N.Y.) capped off a strong season with an 8K personal-best time of 26:13 to place 27th among 272 runners. Mike Bott (Sr., Camillus, N.Y.) and Ryan Korzinski (Jr., Ballston Lake, N.Y.) were the next Lakers to cross the finish line. Bott clocked a time of 26:54 for 72nd place, which was four seconds faster than Korzinski, who placed 79th with a time of 26:58. Ben Sweet (Jr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) recorded a time of 27:38 to finish in 119th, and was followed by Nick Montesano’s (Fr., Apalachin, N.Y.) 130th-place finish after posting a time of 27:46.

Meghan Murphy (Fr., Dix Hills, N.Y.) continued to pace the women’s squad with a result of 24:23 for a 95th-place finish in the 6K competition. The next Laker finisher was Christina Sakowski (So., Cicero, N.Y.), who posted a time of 25:02 to finish 126th. Barb Scheibel (Fr., Fabius, N.Y.) and Kathleen Fulton (So., Oceanside, N.Y.) clocked times of 25:52 and 26:04, respectively, to finish 164th and 172nd, while Katie Riley (So., Camillus, N.Y.) turned in a time of 26:12 for a 182nd-place result.

Individually, Lee Berube of Geneseo won the men’s race by 12 seconds with a time of 24:41, while Plattsburgh’s Stefanie Braun took first in the women’s race by four-tenths with a time of 21:52
