Oswego State Indoor Track and Field Fares Well At Wesleyan Invitational

In the first competition of the new year, the Oswego State indoor track and field team won six individual events at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday in Middletown, Conn. Fresh off of the cross country season, Angeleen Tauriello (Fr., Rochester, N.Y.) established a new school record in the 600 meters with a time of 1:47.14. The Lakers will compete at the St. Lawrence Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 23.

The Lakers had a strong showing in the field events led by double-event winner Mike Chamberlain (So., Rochester, N.Y.). Chamberlain won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 10 3/4 inches and the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 4 1/4 inches. Roger Trigo (Fr., Rome, N.Y.) took first place honors in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 4 1/4 inches. Sean Bereza (So., Rome, N.Y.) set two personal bests in the weight throw and the shot put with distances of 40 feet, 1/2 inch and 41 feet,10 inches, respectively, to finish second in each event and qualify for the SUNYAC Championships. On the women’s side, Samantha Yager (Fr., Batavia, N.Y.) won shot put by two feet with a distance of 34 feet to become eligible for the SUNYAC Championships.

In the track events, AJ Carapella (Sr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.) won the 200 meters after clocking a time of 23.56 and finished third in 55 with a new personal record mark of 6.80, qualifying for the SUNYAC Championships in each event. Teammate Josh Galletta (Sr., Weedsport, N.Y.) took second place in the 55 meters (6.79). Eric Wojtanik (So., Eden, N.Y.) won the 1000 meters with a time of 2:43.62, while Mike Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) was fourth in the 3000 meters after crossing the finish line in 9:28.35.
