Oswego State Lakers Host Pathfinder Bank Hockey Classic

OSWEGO, NY – Some of the nation’s best NCAA Division III men’s hockey players take to the ice this weekend for the fourth annual Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center Ice Arena.

The Oswego State men’s hockey team welcomes the Elmira College Soaring Eagles, the Connecticut College Camels, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raiders to the holiday tournament.

The first puck drops at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, when Elmira College faces off against MSOE.

Immediately following, the host Oswego State Lakers will take on Connecticut College at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s games will include Connecticut College against Elmira or MSOE at 4 p.m., and then Oswego State will take on Elmira or MSOE at 7 p.m.

“We are very excited about the level of competition we will have here this weekend,” said Ed Gosek, head coach for the Oswego State men’s team. “Some of the best players in Division III men’s hockey will be here and that is sure to make for some great games.”

Coach Gosek is well acquainted with top talent as his team is once again at the top of the U.S. College Hockey Online poll.

The Lakers currently have seven players averaging a point or more per game.

The team’s combination of speed, skill, grit and size has created a balanced offensive attack.

The Lakers are undefeated in SUNYAC play and their overall record stands at 13-1-0.

The team claims the top three scoring leaders in the nation.

Last year’s SUNYAC rookie of the year, Eric Selleck leads the nation followed by Chris Laganiere and Justin Fox.

Joining them on the list of the nation’s top 30 scoring leaders are teammates Jon Whitelaw (14th place) and Neil Musselwhite (26th place) along with Elmira’s Rusty Masters (28th place) and Darcy Vaillancourt (29th place).

Other nationwide performance categories that list competitors in this weekend’s tournament include: assists –Selleck (Oswego 1st place), Fox (Oswego 3rd  place), Laganiere (Oswego 4th place), Whitelaw (Oswego 7th place) Brad Dormiedy (Oswego 19th place) and Vaillancourt (Elmira 27th place); short-handed goals – Musselwhite (Oswego 1st place) and power-play goals – Masters (Elmira 8th place), Laganiere (Oswego 14th place),  Brock King (Milwaukee 23th place) and Vaillancourt (Elmira 26th place).

One might expect some high-scoring games when the country’s elite face off at the Pathfinder event; unless you consider that they will be joined by goaltenders who are also at the top of their class.

Recently listed in the top 25 Division III goaltenders are: Kyle Gunn-Taylor (Oswego 6th place), Connor Toomey (Milwaukee 10th place), Paul Beckwith (Oswego 19th place) and Casey Tuttle (Elmira 24th place).

Tickets for each day are $8 and are available at the Oswego State Box Office.
