Oswego State men’s ice hockey shuts out Brockport

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team shutout Brockport, 3-0 on Saturday night to remain perfect at home this season. With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-1-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in SUNYAC action, while Brockport falls to 6-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.

Just over five minutes into the second period, the Lakers took a 1-0 lead. After receiving a pass from classmate Chris MacMillan, sophomore Aaron Huffnagle sent the puck to Cameron Berry, who was set up near the front of the Brockport net.

Berry sent the puck through traffic past the Golden Eagle goalie, putting the Lakers on the scoreboard and sending the teddy bears flying for the annual Teddy Bear Toss.

The Lakers collected 736 bears to donate.

In the third period, the Lakers tacked on an insurance goal. Positioned at the right side of the Brockport net, Joseph Molinaro slapped the puck past the diving Golden Eagle goalie into the left side of the net to give Oswego a 2-0 lead.

Huffnagle notched his second assist of the night on Molinaro’s goal, recording three straight games with an assist.

With one second remaining in the game, the Lakers scored their final goal. Mitch Herlihey added an empty-net goal to bring the final score to 3-0. Mitch Emerson collected his first assist of the season on Herlihey’s goal.

Goalie Cedric Hansen played all 60 minutes in the net for the Lakers, making 19 saves. The sophomore earned the win in the first shutout of his career.

Next, the Lakers travel to Potsdam on Friday to face the Bears at 7 p.m., beginning a five-game road trip. missing or outdated ad config
