OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team looked to get back into the win column against Brockport on Sunday, but the Golden Eagles handed the Lakers a pair of losses by the scores of 3-2 and 10-4 in Oswego. Freshman Diana Lashinsky (West Islip, N.Y.) had a good day at the plate for Oswego State going 4-for-7, scoring two runs and driving in two more. The Lakers dropped to 1-17 on the season and 0-8 in league play, while Brockport improved to 19-5 overall and 5-3 in the SUNYAC.

The scoring started for both squads in the second inning as an Oswego State error and a hit batter followed by back-to-back singles gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. However, the Lakers countered in the bottom of the frame when Diana Lashinsky reached after a Brockport miscue. Oswego State strung together three singles off the bats of Stephanie Sarcona (Fr., East Meadow, N.Y.), Siobhan Joyce (So., Levittown, N.Y.), and Laura Agle (Sr., Eden, N.Y.) to knot the score at two runs apiece.

Nicki Odrobina started a Golden Eagle rally in the fifth with a double to the gap in left center. Odrobina later scored after a sacrifice bunt and a groundball to first base to put Brockport ahead 3-2. The Lakers threatened in the bottom of the sixth with consecutive singles by Lashinsky and Sarcona, but Oswego State was unable to bring the tying run across the plate.

Sarah Thayer (Fr., Winthrop, N.Y.) suffered the loss after throwing the complete game allowing two earned runs on five hits. She also walked two and struck out two. Stephanie Greer struck out five en route to the complete-game win, while giving up five hits and zero earned runs.

The first three Brockport batters started game two with singles before Kelly Briscoe helped her cause by delivering a two-RBI double to right center to make the score 2-0. Brockport added another run in the third after Kim Gabor scored on a wild pitch. The Lakers staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth when they loaded the bases after a single, a walk, and a Golden Eagle error. Siobhan Joyce then laced a base hit up the middle driving in Lashinsky to cut the deficit to 3-1.

However, Brockport got the run back and more by scoring seven runs over its final three at-bats to go ahead 10-1. Oswego State mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh after a Golden Eagle error led to three runs, but it would not be enough as the Lakers fell 10-4. Marie Steding (Fr., Central Square, N.Y.) recorded the loss after pitching five innings and allowing six runs on 11 hits. Kelly Briscoe went the distance on the mound striking out five, while allowing seven hits and zero earned runs.
