Oswego State volleyball team drops a pair of matches

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team (12-18) wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with a pair of losses to St. John Fisher and Potsdam.

The Cardinals avenged an earlier five-set loss to the Lakers by handing them a 3-1 loss (22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 17-25), while the Bears posted a sweep (17-25, 14-25, 11-25).

In the first match of the day, Meaghan Puff (Jr., Newfane, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs at the outside. The other Laker outside hitter, Sabrina Sutton (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.), fell one kill short of a double-double with nine kills and a team-high 18 digs. Stephany Olsheski (Sr., Brockport, N.Y.) handed out 25 assists to go along with 16 digs. In the middle, Stephanie Bailey (So., Scotia, N.Y.) tallied six kills, three solo blocks, and three block assists.

St. John Fisher was paced by Megan Miller and Rachel Kline, who posted 12 kills each. Miller added 11 digs, while Kline finished with two solo blocks and two block assists.

Oswego State struggled to get anything going offensively against Potsdam, as Morgan Lavner (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) led the squad with six kills and Brittany Jones (Sr., Lake George, N.Y.) dished out nine assists. Kayla Pawlewicz (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) compiled six digs.

Kayla Howard led Potsdam with 10 kills, while Jenna Blujus posted 23 assists.

The Lakers will face New Paltz in the first round of the SUNYAC Playoffs on Friday at 3 p.m. in Buffalo, as Oswego State plays in its first conference post-season game since 1996. missing or outdated ad config
