Oswego State women’s basketball team falls to Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball team lost 71-64 to host Oneonta on Saturday evening in Alumni Field House.

With the loss, the Lakers drop to 5-12 overall and 3-7 in the SUNYAC while the Red Dragons improve to 11-6, 6-4.

Oswego got off to a hot start, leading for the first 9:15 before Oneonta captured a one-point edge at 18-17 with 10:45 to play in the first.

Tayler Sorell regained the lead on the Lakers’ next possession, draining a 3-pointer off an assist from Heather Hebert.

The Red Dragons were able to knot the contest on their next possession, which sparked a 9-0 Oneonta run.

Oneonta’s second bucket in that spurt gave it back the lead, an advantage it would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Hebert paced the Lakers on offense and on the glass, recording team-highs for points (18) and rebounds (6). The junior shot 50.0% (5-for-10) from the field while going a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Helping on the offensive end was freshman Alisha Jacobs, tallying 13 points in the game. Point guard Mary Mazzella led the squad with five assists, grabbed a Laker second-most five boards and notching seven points.

From the freethrow line, Oswego was excellent, shooting 25-for-30 (83.3%).

The Lakers will have a quick turnaround for their next game, hosting Geneseo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Max Ziel Gymnasium. missing or outdated ad config
