Oswego State Women’s Ice Hockey Drops Season Opener To Adrian 2-0

ADRIAN, Mich. – In its first game of the 2010-11 season, the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team was unable to take advantage of the opportunities it was given in a 2-0 loss to Adrian Friday night in Adrian, Mich. The Lakers went 0-for-7 in extra skater chances, while the host Bulldogs were 1-for-3. Oswego State, which fell to 0-1-0, will square off again versus Adrian, which improved to 2-0-0, on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Both squads played back-and-forth hockey in the first period, as the teams had nearly identical shots on goal numbers with Adrian leading 9-8. However, that one shot was a goal at the 19:21 mark for the Bulldogs, who capitalized on a power play 21 seconds into the skater advantage with a goal from Olivia Rork, giving Adrian a 1-0 lead at the break.

The only scoring of the second period occurred when Stacey Kempson scored her first goal of the season unassisted for the Bulldogs at 14:11 to give Adrian a 2-0 edge. Oswego State went on the power-play in the final minute of the stanza, but was unable to turn that momentum into a goal as the Bulldogs skated to a 2-0 victory.

The Lakers went on their sixth power play early in the third and managed four shots on goal that were all stopped by Bulldog goaltender Emily Michelin.

Laker goalie Emi Williams finished the contest with 18 saves, while Michelin recorded 27 stops, including 12 in the third period. missing or outdated ad config
