Oswego State women’s lacrosse drops last game of season

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team (4-10, 0-8 SUNYAC) were held to nine shots on goal, as the Lakers were handed a 21-6 defeat by Geneseo (9-6, 4-4) Monday afternoon to close out the season.

Rachael Raffa (Sr., Kings Park, N.Y.) accounted for four Oswego State goals, two of which came on free position shots. Becky Guess (Fr., Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Corinne Marsh (So., Endwell, N.Y.) scored the other two Laker goals, while Danielle Citro (Jr., Miller Place, N.Y.) registered an assist. Emily Haggerty paced the victors with five points (four goals, one assist), while Lea Paris, Rachel Petrone, and Aileen Kupris posted three goals apiece.

Geneseo took a 4-0 lead in the opening seven minutes before Raffa scored the lone Oswego State goal of the first half with 22:50 to play. The Blue Devils tallied the next seven goals for an 11-1 advantage with over minutes remaining in the half, but that proved to be the score at halftime.

Geneseo continued to build on its lead in the second half, as it held its largest margin with 2:17 remaining at 21-4. Marsh and Raffa scored in the final minute to make the final score 21-6.

Ashlee Engel (Jr., Webster, N.Y.) registered the loss with five saves and ten goals allowed in the first 17 minutes. Nicole Nalle (Sr., Oswego, N.Y.) posted six saves and seven goals allowed in nearly 28 minutes, while Lauren Marois (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) closed out the final 15 minutes with two saves on six shots.

Julie Bernatzky and Laura Passamonte combined to make three saves for Geneseo.

Raffa ends her career as the third all-time leading scorer in Laker history with 207 points on 155 goals, which also ranks third, and 52 assists. Classmate Erin Cummings (Sr., Valley Cottage, N.Y.) wrapped up her career ranked eighth in points and goals at 152 and 109, respectively.
