Oswego State’s Grupp Honored

CORTLAND, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference has named Oswego State’s Sarah Grupp of the women’s soccer team its Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 28, 2014.

In a 1-1-1 week for the Lakers, Grupp scored a couple key goals.

The freshman’s first goal came on Tuesday in a 4-2 loss to Hamilton College at home.

After trailing 3-0 heading into halftime, Grupp notched her first collegiate goal following a Tia Segretto score, cutting the Continentals’ lead to 3-2. Oswego had a few more good opportunities to try and knot the game but Hamilton added a late insurance goal to steal the win.

The Lakers then tied perennial power Oneonta in a scoreless double-overtime game to open the SUNYAC schedule at home on Friday.

After going without a goal on Friday, Grupp was ready to get back on the scoreboard, netting the eventual game-winner at 66:11 to put Oswego ahead 1-0 of visiting New Paltz.

Erin Hussey added a score exactly 10 minutes later on a pass from Segretto and Lakers’ goalkeeper Alyssa Glasshagel kept the Hawks off the board for her third shutout of the year and a 2-0 victory.

Grupp and Oswego will be back on the pitch at 4 p.m. on Friday when they travel to Potsdam to begin another SUNYAC weekend. missing or outdated ad config
