OSWEGO – The Oswego Sub Shop Peewees took home the championship trophy in the TCS Winter Classic Cup held at The Buffalo Riverworks Complex this past weekend.

The Oswego side made it to Sunday’s crossover game by going 1-2 in pool play.

On Sunday The Sub Shop squad faced the Syracuse Blazers and defeated them 5-1 to advance to the championship contest.

Leading The Oswego scoring effort was Brayden Miller with two goals and an assist. Joe Brodeur chipped in two assists, while Logan Crannell, Mason Kurilovitch and Connor Morgia added goals.

In goal for Oswego, Keegan Finch turned aside 18 shots, allowing only one Blazer goal.

In the Sunday afternoon championship, the Oswego side faced the Wheatfield Blades from Niagara Falls.

After a scoreless first period, Wheatfield went up 1-0 when Joe Muni beat Oswego Goalie Bradley Livesey (23 saves).

With just over two minutes left in the second, Oswego’s Ian Cady knotted the score at 1-1 finishing off a nice play set up by Logan Crannell and Brayden Miller.

Oswego scored early in the third as Louie Roman ripped a shot past the Wheatfield goalie, Mason Kurilovitch was credited with the assist.

Wheatfield tied it up at 2-2 just two minutes later as a centering pass deflected off a skate in front of the Sub Shop net and squeezed past Livsey.

Both teams were playing hard in the final minutes of regulation, but the game went into a 4-4 overtime period to determine the champion.

On the second shift in the OT period, Oswego’s Ian Cady went in the corner with a Wheatfield defenseman and came up with the puck. He quickly found Logan Crannell on the doorstep and placed the perfect pass to Crannell who made no mistake burying his chance in the back of the Wheatfield goal which sent the Oswego bench onto the ice to celebrate the victory.

Coach Ben Miller said of the Weekend “ It was a great chance for our kids to play in this unique outdoor venue, we had some real positives and it was great to see them finish strong”
