The following notice has been posted for Lake Ontario waters:
Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.
The following notice has been posted for the Oswego River:
Due to the construction of the NYS Rte. 104 bridge, certain areas of the Oswego River will be restricted to boat traffic. Please watch for signs and buoys.
Oswego River report:
According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:
We have received some rain this week and a lot of rain statewide. The water flow is up between 5000-8000cfs with the level being just under 8,000cfs Friday morning. The fishing remains the same with bass and carp active throughout the river. Crayfish are the bait to use for bass and corn and dough bait for the carp. Oswego is hosting its annual Harborfest Celebration this weekend, so expect to find more boat activity in the lower end of the river north of the NYS Rte. 104 bridge.
Lake Ontario report:
According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters:
Although conditions have been tough, good numbers of brown trout and some salmon are being found in 45 to 80 feet of water. Reports are saying there are giant schools of salmon way to the north off the Canadian shoreline. Sooner or later they will have to start staging off of our river mouths and when they do, it will be business as usual. Dreamweaver spoons in black & silver, glow green, lemon/lime and the NK Diehard spoon are all working well, as are the E-chip flashers and flies in green or white. Copper, leadcore, dipsys and riggers are all taking fish. Bass fishing in and around Oswego and Ford Shoals is providing some really good catches. Fish small jigs tipped with Mister Twister grubs. Slowly bounce the jigs off rocky bottoms and work the shoals and drop-offs. Crabs and worms are always a good bet. Also try the areas around Four Mile Point in Scriba and at the Green Can just west of Oswego.
Mexico Bay report:
According to Capt. Gerry Bresadola of B&B Sportfishing Charters:
Oh where, oh where did the salmon go, oh where oh where did they go. My guess is the Canadian shore and colder water. It is not really that unusual and as the temperatures and bait go, so do the fish. Mr.”Stay At Home” Brown Trout has become the temporary preferred target until the kings show up in significant numbers. Right now the browns are hitting in shallow water from 35 to 50 feet. Assorted Michigan Stingers continue to be a top producer.
Salmon River/Pulaski area report:
According to Dave Wood of Woody’s Tackle:
The bass and northern pike bite in the estuary is still good especially late at night.
Lake Ontario is finding the salmon fishing inconsistent with the weather pattern. You can do well with them one day and then they are allusive for a few days. The brown trout bite however is excellent especially just off the Salmon River. Look in 50-60 ft. of water downrigging with spoons such as Michigan Stingers, Dreamweavers and Suttans. In one limit catch this week, we saw a 12 and 17 pound brown. They are coming into their fall colors and there are some beautiful fish out there.
Oneida Lake Report:
According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters:
On Oneida Lake fishing with jigs and worms is still producing some great catches. Generally they have switched to suspended and trolled baits by now, but the anglers bouncing bottom are still taking some very impressive catches. Look for bass in about 6 ft. of water using crayfish and worms and panfish are doing well along the shoreline.
Sandy Pond Report:
According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters:
There has been some bass and northern pike action on Sandy Pond and Lakeview Marsh, especially along the weed lines. Cast spinnerbaits, rubberworms, small crankbaits and of course don’t forget the jitterbugs and buzzbaits for some hot top water action.
