Oz Roller Girls Run Win Streak To 3 With Road Win Over ManchVegas

MANCHESTER, NH – The Oz Roller Girls roller derby team racked up its third straight victory by topping the ManchVegas Roller Girls 194-147 on Saturday in Manchester, NH.

The two evenly-matched teams swapped the lead back and forth through much of the first half, which ended with Oz holding an 88-78 lead.

But a second-half surge, highlighted by a 25-point jam by Abbie Cadaver, gave Oz a lead the determined home team could not catch.

Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy once again posted high scoring honors for Oswego with 64 points.

Abbie Cadaver added 53 points for Oz, with J-Rock-It’s 40 and Certified Public Assassin’s 33 contributing to a balanced scoring attack.

The two-headed attack of ManchVegas jammers Ima Menace and Chick Anery led the home team with 64 and 60 points, respectively, with Trixi Driver adding 21 points.

The see-saw battle started early, as Trixi Driver gave ManchVegas a quick 5-0 lead before J-Rock-It put Oz on top 9-5. Oz stretched their lead to 16-8 until an 18-point jam by Ima Menace gave ManchVegas a 26-16 advantage.

A subsequent 17-point jam by Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy, against a nine-point effort by Chick Anery, brought Oz back within 35-33.

The teams traded leads for a while, with a four-point jam by Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy putting Oz up 45-44, then nine more from Certified Public Assassin giving the visitors a 54-44 lead.

But unsinkable ManchVegas captain Chick Anery responded with a 14-point jam for a 58-54 lead.

After four points from J-Rock-It knotted the score at 58, a thrilling showdown between Ima Menace (for 11 points) vs. Certified Public Assassin gave ManchVegas its last lead at 69-66.

Oz regained the lead on a 14-point jam by Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy, before the final jam of the first half — a nine-point effort for Trixie Driver vs. eight for Abbie Cadaver — sent Oz to the locker room with a 88-78 lead.

Early in the second half, a 10-point jam by Certified Public Assassin increased the Oz lead and put the score at 99-82, but ManchVegas continued chipping away at the lead.

The teams traded points, with Oz up 126-107 when the match hit its turning point.

With the ManchVegas jammer sent to the penalty box for a back block, Abbie Cadaver reaped points behind the blocking line of Cee Cee Boom, Insane Assilem, Rockem Sockem and Certified Public Assassin.

After scoring an astonishing five consecutive grand slams – where the jammer laps the entire other team, including any players in the penalty box – the 25-point jam gave Oz a sizable 151-111 lead.

ManchVegas continued skating hard and tough, but even a gritty 16-point effort by Ima Menace on the final jam could only bring ManchVegas back to 194-147.

Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy, her team’s high scorer, earned the MVP for Oz.

ManchVegas’ steady leader, Chick Anery, won MVP honors for the host team.

The Oz Roller Girls, now 3-1 in their debut season, return to action at 6 p.m. June 11 at Oswego’s Crisafulli Rink, hosting Enchanted Mountain Derby.

The Nukes of Hazzard look to avenge an earlier loss to the Port City Sirens as an intraleague bout rounds out the doubleheader.
