Also in double figures for Oz were Abbie Cadaver with 29 points and Mass Jennocide with 18. Helluva Mess paced Crown City with 31 points, Evil Lucian and Motley Brues-Her added 15 each, with Courtknee Shove (12) and Jaded Glory (10) rounding out Cortland skaters in double figures.

Oz never trailed in the match, with J Rock-It scoring 4 points on the opening jam, only to have Crown City’s Helluva Mess to counter with 4 to knot the score on the next jam. But Mass Jennocide reeled off 13 points behind the blocking line of J-Rock-It, Abbie Cadaver, Storm Warning and Medusa’s Might to spark Oz to a 17-4 lead.

Oswego continued to build the advantage until a 10-point jam by Evil Lucian pulled the Royal Pains back within 26-16. When J-Rock-It scored a 15-point jam including three grand slams — when the jammer laps the whole other team for five points — supported by blockers Certified Public Assassin, Insane Assilem, Storm Warning and Abbie Cadaver, Oz constructed a 46-16 lead.

While Royal Pains jammer Motley Brues-Her would answer back with a 10-point jam to get Crown City within 50-30, J-Rock-It posted a 12-point jam to put Oz up 62-33. Certified Public Assassin added nine points in the next jam to run Oz’s lead to 71-33. The Royal Pains hung tough, thanks in part to a nine-point jam by CourtKnee Shove to pull within 75-46, but Oz grabbed to momentum going into the half on a nine-point jam by Certified Public Assassin and a 15-pointer by J-Rock-It to enter the half with a 99-46 lead.

Oz put the defensive clamps on coming out for the second half, holding the Royal Pains scoreless in the first three jams while getting 13 points in the first two jams by Certified Public Assassin then four more from Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em for a 116-46 advantage. When Abbie Cadaver added 14 points two jams later, Oz opened a 134-49 lead.

The Royal Pains refused to fold, as an eight-point jam by Criminal Miss Chief and a 19-point outburst by Helluva Mess pulled the hosts within 138-84. But Oz stopped the momentum with a 19-point jam by Certified Public Assassin behind the blocking line of J-Rock-It, Gypsy, Mass Jennocide and Crushed Red Pepper to stretch Oz’s lead back to 157-84.

From there, Oz and Crown City traded points back and forth until time expired with Oz claiming the 172-109 win.

J’Rock-It earned MVP for Oz, her second such honor this season, while the powerhouse Manda Tori Chaos was voted the Royal Pains MVP.

The Oz Roller Girls’ next home bout will be Family Night on Saturday, August 27, when they host the Manch Vegas Roller Girls at Oswego’s Crisafulli Rink.

Many Oz skaters will take part in the three-day Triple-D (Derby, Down and Dirty) event during Harborfest weekend. The first-ever local roller derby tournament, July 29 to 31, will feature teams and skaters from across the state in three days of competition and fun at Crisafulli Rink.
