Plattsburgh Tops Lakers, 6-1

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team fell to No. 1 Plattsburgh, 6-1, at home on Friday night. With the loss, Oswego moves to 8-11-1 on the season and 4-7-0 in NEWHL play, while Plattsburgh improves to 17-2-1 overall and remains undefeated at 11-0-0 in conference action.

The highlight of the first period for Oswego came a little over five minutes into the game. With Oswego on a power play, Kate Randazzo passed the puck to Olivia Ellis, on the right side of the ice. Ellis gained control and sent the puck to Julieann White, who slapped it into the right side of the Cardinal net. Randazzo, the team leader in assists, picked up her 12th assist of the season on the goal, while Ellis, who ranks second on the team in assists, notched her ninth.

Oswego capitalized on another power-play situation in the third period. With a 5-on-3 advantage and 10 seconds left in the game, White passed the puck to Laura Thacker in front of the net and Thacker redirected the pass into the Cardinal goal. White collected her second point of the game with an assist on Thacker’s goal, as did Ellis.

After a high-scoring first period, the Lakers improved defensively in the second and third. Mariah Madrigal collected 15 of her 19 saves in the final two periods, and held Plattsburgh to one goal in that time.

The Lakers and Cardinals resume their two-game series as they return to the ice at the Marano Campus Center Arena at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
