FULTON, NY – It is always nice to beat Mother Nature. Friday night at the Fulton Speedway the entire show was completed with less than favorable weather forecast.

Winners on ‘Highbank Holdup’ weekend night one, presented by Strada Mia Italian Restaurant were, Jason Barney (Empire Super Sprints). John Pietrowicz (Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stocks). Justin Williams (AmeriCU Credit Union Mod Lites).

Dylan Swiernik and Joe Trenca brought the twenty-four-car field down to the green with Swiernik grabbing the lead to kick off the Empire Super Sprints 40thanniversary season.

On lap six local fan favorite Jason Barney would run down and pass Swiernik to be scored the new leader.

By lap ten Barney opened an almost half a straightway lead leaving Swiernik, Trenca, Danny Varin, and Matt Farnham to battle for second through fifth.

With ten laps to go Barney was on rails out front still in command of the race with Swiernik, Varin, Trenca, and Shawn Donath battling in the top-five.

Yellows on lap twenty and twenty-one erased Barney’s big lead and gave the field one last shot at Barney and the win.

Over the final laps Danny Varin could stay with Jason Barney but there was no denying Barney a trip to victory lane. Dylan Swiernik, series champion Jordan Poirier, and Shawn Donath completed the top-five.

The Empire Super Sprints will return to the speedway on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 27th joining the Modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Novice Sportsman.

John Pietrowicz made a statement in the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stocks 20-Lap feature as he dominated the entire distance. Brennan Fitzgibbons, Adam Hunt, Edward Stevens, and Jim Evans finished second through fifth.

Justin Williams took the big win in the 20-Lap AmeriCU Credit Union Mod Lite feature, winning by four seconds at the finish. The race for the rest of the top-five came down to the final lap battle for positions with Joe Isabell, Kyle Demo, Mike Mullen, and Joe Garafolo finished second through fifth.

The Fulton Speedway will be back in action this Saturday, May 6th when Compass Credit Union will present the season points opener in the season long battles for 2023 track championships.

On the race card will be the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds, DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, and the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stocks.
