OSWEGO – Flack Racing announced on Friday that Dan Kapuscinski will take the wheel of its No. 23 Small Block Super full-time at Oswego Speedway in 2021.
Following track testing in 2020, it was determined that Kapuscinski will handle driving duties of the Hedger Chassis machine at Oswego, while Stephen Flack will drive at any scheduled out of town SBS shows.
“We’re all happy to have Dan in the seat at Oswego next season,” said Flack. “I plan to continue driving when I can in order to gain more experience for Oswego down the road. There is an excitement to watching your car be able to compete from starting 9th or 10th on the grid, and I know Dan can make that happen with our car. Now, we just need to keep our fingers crossed that the new season runs off as scheduled. We can’t wait.”
Kapuscinski, who won two heat races and scored four podium finishes in only nine SBS starts at Oswego in 2018, has 12 career top five finishes at Oswego, but is still eyeing his first career victory.
With plans for the Flack No. 23 to visit the Hedger Fabrication shop this winter for further updates, the pieces are falling into place for a competitive 2021.
“We’re all committed to getting this car to victory lane next season,” said Kapuscinski. “I’ve been close more times than I care to think about and it hasn’t happened. Steve, his family and team are behind me 100%, no question, and myself, my family and my partners are with them all the way too. Together we look forward to getting it done and being a weekly contender in what I believe will be a very competitive SBS class at Oswego in 2021.”
In his first circuits behind the wheel of the Flack No. 23, Kapuscinski logged the fifth fastest time of SBS testing at Oswego in 2020, despite limited laps during a June track rental.
“I had not driven a Hedger Chassis at Oswego since 2002, but the car was comfortable right away,” said Kapuscinski. “We tested on a very green race track with 100-lap tires and turned some respectable times. More importantly, the car reacted nicely to changes we made during the day.”
A host of partners are on-board the No. 23 to help make the coming season possible including Premier Landscaping, Oscar Roofing, Burger Construction, Burger Masonry, Farmers Insurance, Mohawk Northeast and Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux.
Oswego Speedway’s preliminary schedule shows 14 weekends of action, with an open practice set to start 2021 on Saturday, May 1.
The Speedway’s 70th season will open on Saturday, May 8, followed with a second event on Saturday, May 15.
The postponed 64th running of Budweiser International Classic Weekend will then take place on Memorial Day Weekend, with the Bud Light SBS Classic 75 scheduled for Saturday, May 29.
Nine more events are still to be announced before the 65th Budweiser International Classic Weekend take places on Labor Day Weekend from September 3-5.
