WEEDSPORT, NY – Due to a forecast of more than an inch and a half of widespread rain between Friday and Sunday evening, Weedsport Kartway officials have opted to cancel the season opening Spring Meltdown Weekend, slated for April 29-30.
Due to the cancelation, the kartway will add the Short Port Shootout to the Slack Karts Super Kart Series presented by Pit Stop Convenience Stores schedule on Sunday, August 6, featuring all eight point classes along with $250 to win PRO Clone Super Heavy and PRO Jr. Unrestricted mains and a $1,000 to win PRO Clone 360 special. The overall series schedule will now be reduced to six events, with a drop still in play, meaning a driver’s top five events will count toward the series championship. “Our main goal at Weedsport is to provide our racers with a safe and efficient racing program and the current forecast, which has been fairly consistent over the last several days, does not give us the confidence that we will be able to make that happen,” said Weedsport Kartway representative, Dan Kapuscinski. “By making this decision now hotel reservations can be canceled, we avoid unnecessary travel for our many out of town racers, and everyone can make alternate plans for the weekend. We have a full season ahead of us and while we were ready to race, we feel this is the best option for everyone based on the information we have.” Racers that pre-registered for divisions and pit passes via Kart Pass will be issued credits to their Kart Pass accounts toward any upcoming Weedsport Kartway events. Those with questions about the credit system, or anyone that would like to be issued a complete refund, can call the Weedsport Speedway main office at (315) 834-3067. Weedsport Kartway’s season opening event will now be the annual Kart Cup, scheduled for Sunday, June 11. Kart Cup will see all eight point classes in action along with Twin 20’s for PRO Clone 360, each paying $500 to the winner along with a $500 bonus for the driver with the best overall finish.
