OSWEGO, NY – A strong bout of thunderstorms has forced Race of Champions officials to postpone the remaining Friday night portion of the 63rd annual SUNOCO Race of Champions Weekend until Sunday at Oswego Speedway.
The Saturday schedule remains unchanged with qualifying set for 3 p.m.
With all rounds of qualifying being completed before the rains came, the RoC Sportsman 100, Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supermodified 50, and the RoC Late Model 50 will take place at the ‘Steel Palace’ beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The RoC Sportsman 100 was in line through the Speedway pit area Friday night when the call came down to delay the race with a strong string of storms moving into the Oswego area. Within ten minutes the skies opened up leaving fans and teams to search for cover.
The Sunday schedule will see pit gates open bright and early at 9 a.m.. One very brief round of hot laps will be given for all three divisions, with the RoC Sportsman 100 taking the green flag at approximately 11 a.m. The Pathfinder Bank SBS 50 and RoC Late Model 50 will follow.
There will be no consolation race in the Small Block Super division.
Haulers may stay in the pit area on Sunday as long as they are not taller than 10.5 ft.
The Saturday portion of Race of Champions Weekend featuring the RoC Modified 200 and the Novelis Supermodified 100 is on as scheduled for July 20. Pit gates will open on Saturday at 11am with practice beginning and grandstands opening at 1pm. Racing will take the green flag at 3pm with the 75-lap Super Stock feature scheduled for approximately 4:30pm followed by the Novelis Supermodified 100 at 6pm and the RoC Modified 200 at 8pm.
