OSWEGO, New York – The Rudy’s B Mites captured a decisive 7-3 win over Lysander this past weekend at Cullinan Ice Rink in Oswego.
According to Rudy’s Head Coach Mark Fierro the team played strong offensively throughout the game, but it was the defense, led by Goalie Cole Cullinan, that made the difference.
“Our kids really stepped it up on the defensive end,†said Fierro. “They really limited Lysander’s opportunities by getting back and playing aggressive on that side of the ice.
“And, Cole made some key saves that helped us secure the win.â€Â
Cullinan finished with 11 saves in the win.
On the offensive end, Evan Giocondo started the scoring for Rudy’s at the 8:47 mark of the first period off an assist from Mark Jones.
Rudy’s scored again at the end of the first on a short-handed goal by Andrew Noyes, and then again in the second period on two goals by Jones.
Lysander tightened the game to 4-3 with a couple of goals in the second period, but Rudy’s scored three more in the third with Jones scoring twice and Tyler Wallace adding one. Julia Roman, Spencer Stepien, and Lucas Shepardson added assists.
According to Fierro, the team’s strong efforts were led by Cullinan, Jones, Noyes, Giocondo, Wallace, Stepien, Shepardson, Roman, Bryson Bush, Nick Burnett, Anthony DiBlasi, Isaiah Raby, and Katie Fierro.
