OSWEGO, NY – The Step One Creative Girls 12u hockey team of the Oswego Minor Hockey Association won their Snowbelt League Peewee John Abbott Memorial Championship at Haldane Memorial Arena in Pulaski this past weekend.
The Lady Bucs defeated the Salmon River 2 team 4-3 in the championship game, and defeated Cortland 5-2 and Watertown 6-3 in the preliminary games to earn their spot in the finals.
Their only loss in the tournament was 3-2 in their first game against Salmon River, but qualified for the championship based on their total points in the preliminary games.
The all-girl team participated in the Snowbelt Hockey League Peewee Blue Division throughout the regular season, finishing with a 12-4 overall record against the boy and co-ed teams in the league.
Their JAM championship win was first in the 42-year history of the league for an all-girls team at any level.
The Step One Creative 12u girls also qualified for the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Tournament where they will be participating this upcoming weekend in Amherst, New York.
They qualified in early February after tying the Ithaca 12u girls team and then defeating the Valley 12u girls 2-0.
The Girls 12u team is coached by head coach Ben Miller and assistant coaches Adam Michalski and Randy Pratt.
