Thousand Islands 5 Step One Creative 3
The Oswego squad jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in this matchup against Thousand Islands in Clayton. Step One’s Aidan Taylor scored off a feed from winger Lukas Cady at the 11:20 mark of the first period, before Cady gathered his own goal just seconds later. Step One Creative would add another later in the second when defenseman Bryson Bush went coast to coast for the tally.

Despite the two early goals by Oswego, the Thousand Islands team came out very strong in the second and third periods, scoring five goals with a relentless offensive attack against the visiting Bucs.

Oswego goalie Hunter Lawton had 26 saves against 31 shots in the loss.

“They (Thousand Islands) really came out aggressive in the second period, and then continued their strong play in the third,” said Step One Creative Head Coach Frank Brosch. “I thought our kids played very well early, but just couldn’t stop the relentless pressure in our zone later in the game.”

Elmira 4 Step One Creative 1
On the road at Elmira’s First Arena, the Step One Bucs lost 4-1 against the league leading and undefeated Jackals. Elmira jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on Step One, scoring three goals in the first six minutes of the matchup. A balanced offensive attack and strong passing paced Elmira in the first period.

Oswego’s Spencer Stepien got the Bucs on the board at 13:30 of the second period, when Aidan Taylor shot wide of the net and Stepien gathered the rebound to make it 3-1. Elmira would add one more late in the second to close out the scoring.

“They scored three goals very early,” said Brosch, “but our team held them to a tie the rest of the game. This was a very good hockey team and our kids worked hard after the tough start.”

Oswego was outshot 36-21 in the game, and goalie Hunter Lawton had 32 saves.

Step One Creative 7 Valley 0
In their matchup on home ice against Valley, the Step One Bucs scored seven unanswered in the second and third periods to pick up the Snowbelt win 7-0.

Oswego’s Cady and Bush paced the Bucs with two goals and an assist each. Stepien, Marcus Baker, and Patrick Galvin added a goal and one assist each, while Noah Delaney picked up two assists.

Lawton had 22 saves in the win, and registered his seventh shutout of the season.

“It was a tight game after one period,” said Brosch, “but our team really started pressuring their end of the ice and took advantage of some opportunities. “Hunter continues to play very strong in net, and it was great to see the team play at the level of hockey we have come to expect from them.”

According to Brosch, the defensive efforts of Bush, Tommy Back, Cole Cullinan, Joseph DiBlasi, and Tyler May also attributed to the win.

The Bucs travel to Watertown and Pulaski (Salmon River) this weekend for Snowbelt League games.
