Successful Fulton Speedway Test And Tune Will Lead Into Big Season Opener This Saturday

By Dave Medler – Not many thought just a little over a month ago when a snow storm ripped through Central New York dropping snow that measured in feet on top of what was already on the ground that race cars would hitting Fulton Speedway anytime soon. Mother Nature smiled on us melting the snow and giving us an 80 degree day for open practice on the high banks.

Just over 80 cars signed in the pits that included DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton DIRTcar Sportsman, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, NAPA Late Models, Mod Lites and Gladiators.

Not only was it practice for Race Teams it was also time for track employees to get back in the swing of things and iron out any kinks before next week’s big season opener.

Next Saturday, April 10th the Fulton Speedway will take center stage as the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series comes to town. On tap will be the “VP Race Fuels Spring Fever 100”. Also on the race card will be the SUNY Canton DIRTcar Sportsman, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, NAPA Late Models and Gladiators.

Track regulars will be looking to defend their home turf in the 100 lap grind. Billy Decker is coming off a big series win at Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland to lead the Fulton Modifieds. Throw in Pat Ward, Ryan Phelps, Michael Storms, Jimmy Phelps, Alan Johnson and others, makes the hometown boys tough to beat.

Just a couple invading drivers hoping to spoil opening night are Matt Sheppard and Brett Hearn. Sheppard in 2009 was the DIRTcar Northeast top winner falling just four points short of the overall Mr DIRT Title. Brett Hearn who was the 2009 MR DIRTcar Big Block Modified Champion is snake-bit when it comes to Fulton Speedway. Hearn who has 100’s of wins at countless speedways has never picked up a win at Fulton. Hearn will be looking to change all that this Saturday night.

Saturday, April 10th – Pits will open at 3:00 P.M, Grandstands at 4:00 P.M with racing starting at 6:00 P.M. Adult grandstand admission will be $22, 10-14 years old $10 and kids 9 and under are free. Pit Admission will be $35 for the night.

The speedway is located on 1603 county route 57 in Fulton,NY. For more information call 315-593-6531. RACELINE 315-668-RACE or visit www.fultonspeedway.com. missing or outdated ad config
