Oswego Speedway 2-Seat Supermodified Ready for 2013

OSWEGO, NY – The newly redesigned Oswego Speedway 2-seat Supermodified will make its 2013 debut at the Gater Motorsports Expo March 9 and 10 at the Center of Progress Building at the New York State Fairgrounds.

The car will be fresh out of the Steve Gioia, Jr. Race Shop with a brand new body and totally new look. The Oswego Speedway and Gater Racing News are once again teaming up to give away a ride in the 2-seat Supermodified during the Motorsports Expo.

“When the car made its debut four years ago it was red, and the body was really kind of old fashioned,” said 2-seat Supermodified Coordinator Roy Sova. “The next year it had a new white and totally updated body. Last year we kept that basic body design and updated just about everything else,” Sova continued. “For 2013 the body has once again been updated and we have changed the color to black and the car has some great graphics designed by Kathy Gioia of Gioia Signs and Graphics in Oswego.”

Once again in 2013 Canale Insurance of Oswego, Fulton and Webster is the title sponsor. Also returning as sponsors are Grossman St. Amour CPA’s, formerly Green & Seifter CPA’s, Oswego Quality Carpet, Ferris Industries, Terrell’s Potato Chips, John Costello & Associates, Outdoor Power, and Clean Check. Coming back as a sponsor after a one year absence is FleetPride, and new sponsor Top Quality Construction.

“Another logo you will see on the car in 2013,” said Sova, “is Make A Wish.”

For the third straight year Oswego Speedway, the Canale Insurance 2-seat Supermodified team, and join Grossman St. Amour will team up to help make some youngster’s wish come true.

Adam Panek, partner at Grossman St. Amour said, “We started this in 2011 as part of our night at the Oswego Speedway. The joy it brings to the youngster involved is just something special. Each year it has gotten bigger and better.”

Last year, at least half of the Supermodified and Small Block Supermodified race teams donated items to go into a gift for the Make A Wish rider.

“This year we expect even more teams to participate,” said Panek.

As always the 2-seat Supermodified season will feature the Ride With the Legends program Classic Weekend. Six Hall of Fame drivers will suit up and give rides to four individuals, with part of the ride money going to a charity which will be named in July. In the past Pat Abold, Eddie Bellinger, Joe Gosek, Davey Hamilton, Doug Heveron, Dave McKnight, Jamie Moore, and Otto Sittterly, have participated as drivers. The drivers for the 2013 Ride With the Legends will be announced Old Timers Weekend at the Oswego Speedway.

“We’ll have some drivers back, and will be adding a couple new drivers to the 2013 Legends roster,” said Sova.

Once again the Start the Feature ride will be offered on all race nights where the Oswego Supermodified race.

“This has been one of the most popular rides over the two years it has been offered,” said Sova, “It has sold out each year. We expect 2013 to be no different, and, in fact, have already sold a number of the rides we have available for the year.”

One change for the 2013 season is that Saturday morning rides are not going to be offered every week, but only on weeks when there is a special event, such as King of Wings, or the Mr. Supermodified race.
