Sterling Stage FOLKFEST Kicks off 15 Year Anniversary Festival Season on Memorial Day Weekend

Kicking off the 15 year anniversary festival season, the Sterling Stage Kampitheater in Sterling, NY brings you its 6th annual FOLKFEST, taking place Memorial Day weekend, May 27-30, 2010. This year’s festival offers four days of continual groove, evergreen-laden, festival-style camping, and nothing but warm, friendly, Folkfestian vibes.

With over thirty bands sharing three stages, FOLKFEST offers a little something for everyone with its eclectic blend of cutting edge folk, roots, jam, and ameribeat muisic. New additions to the FOLKFEST family this year are: Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, Nate Willson Group, Buffalo Killers, Jamie McLean Band, Leroy Justice, and Lucid. Old favorites like Natural Breakdown, The Buddhahood, The Family Dawgz, Sophistafunk, and Tim Herron Corporation will return to the stage, sprouting a sense of nostalgia for those who see the Kampitheater as their summer vacation home.

“It’s been close to 12 years since I’ve been playing at Sterling and it’s probably safe to say that I’ve played more shows then anyone that’s had the pleasure to perform amongst the trees of Sterling,” said Tim Herron, performing both Thursday and Saturday night. “I never considered what I did up there as work, it’s always been me playing for my friends and community. I am looking forward to making more friends up there and having the pleasure to sing songs for them.”

Nestled amongst evergreens and hardwoods, just minutes from Lake Ontario, the Sterling Stage Kampitheater is a venue unlike any other. Its cozy, family-oriented camping grounds provide festival goers with a unique experience not found at larger, national festivals. The music begins Thursday night with local favorites, Tim Herron and Friends, hitting the stage at 8 p.m. Following will be Oswego-based band, House on a Spring, with their highly energized dub reggae and conscious roots music lasting well into the night. Hailing from New Hampshire, riff-heavy, psychedelic hard rock quartet, Nate Wilson Group, will make their debut at FOLKFEST as Friday night’s headlining act. With their use of traditional folk instruments, tasty electric guitar and the distinctive singing and songwriting of Joziah Longo, Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams will grace the Main Stage, playing a two-hour set, Saturday night.
