For a day, it felt like summer in Fulton. A perfect day for the annual Rock The Block party downtown.
Bright sunshine beat down on a blockful of people, drawn by the promise of good music and good local food. But this party almost didn’t happen.
Wes Dean, owner of Red Baron Pizza and a participant in Rock The Block from the beginning, said he heard just three weeks ago that the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce could not put on the event this year. “So we stepped in,” he said.
A consortium of local businesses quickly assembled the event, enlisting local musicians Joe and Kimo Cortini to provide a music from the Cortini Brothers with the Critics Horns, getting food vending from Red Baron, Blue Moon Grill, Tavern on the Lock and Schremp Dogs, and providing space for local groups such as the Lions Club and the Fulton Public Library.
A big crowd turned out. “This is fantastic,” Dean said.
