Granby Leaders Thank Aubertine For His Speedy Help Getting Bridge Repair Money

There were cupcakes and a receiving line at Granby Town Hall Saturday, to thank State Senator Darrel Aubertine for quickly getting the town a grant to fix up three dangerously deteriorated bridges.  The town leaders then took Aubertine on a quickie field trip to show him what the money has bought.

Fulton Hopes To Hold Line On Taxes In 2010 Budget Despite Big Pension Boost

Mayor Ron Woodward said the city was notified recently that its contribution to retirements for most of its union employees will increase by $310,000 next year.  He estimates that when the retirements of all employees are added in, the final number will be around $365,000.

That’s a big jump in an $18 million budget.

Paterson Orders Big Cutbacks To Fill Part Of $3 Billion Deficit

Paterson mandated $500 million in cuts to the operating budgets of all state agencies, with the size of the cuts being made proportional to their budgets. So, the agencies with the largest operating budgets will suffer the largest reductions. The largest belongs to the State University of New York system. SUNY is being asked to give back $90 million from its current budget.

New Utility Assessments Exemplify Poor Public Policy

Beginning this summer, utility bills began to feature a new fee called the “Utility Tax Service Conservation Assessment.” This is now listed on all utility bills. Though a modest fee for most households, it is, nonetheless, another state fee and exists thanks to the budget that passed in the spring. I am urging for the repeal of this assessment to prevent more money from going to our already bloated state budget.
