Three-Goal First Period Helps Oswego State Men’s Ice Hockey Defeat Brockport 4-2

Box Score

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 1-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team raced out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first period before finishing with a 4-2 win against host Brockport Friday.  Luke Moodie posted two goals for the victors, while Paul Rodrigues and Chris Muise notched the other Laker scores.  Oswego State improved to 10-0-0 overall and 7-0-0 in the league, while the Golden Eagles remained winless at 0-10-1 overall and 0-7-0 in the SUNYAC.

Rodrigues gave the Lakers an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal 4:56 into the contest.  The margin doubled less than a minute later when Andrew Mather found Chris Muise for his third goal of the season.  Oswego State was not finished in the stanza, though, as the Lakers converted a Brockport unsportsmanlike conduct penalty into a power play goal.  Moodie registered his first goal of the game at the 13:50 mark with helpers going to Justin Fox and Stephen Mallaro, giving the Lakers a 3-0 edge at intermission.

Brockport got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute of the second period after Tom Galiani got the puck past Oswego State goalie Paul Beckwith to make the score 3-1.  However, Moodie brought the margin back to three goals at 13:50 with his seventh goal of the season.

Galiani tacked on the Golden Eagles’ second goal in the middle stages of the third, but it would not be enough as the Lakers skated away with the 4-2 victory.

Beckwith finished the game with 15 saves and the Oswego State power play went 1-for-5.  Brockport’s Oliver Wren tallied 26 saves in the losing effort, as the Golden Eagles went 0-for-2 with the skater advantage.

The Lakers will face a tough road test on Saturday when they face tenth-ranked Geneseo at 7 p.m.
