Two Lakers capture titles at track and field championships


CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams crowned two individual event champions on the first day of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Cortland on Friday.

Mallory Eckert (Jr., Edmeston, N.Y.) got things rolling by winning the javelin throw with a distance of 113 feet, 9 inches (34.67m) on her second attempt. She is the first Laker javelin champion since Heidi Armstrong earned the title in 2007 and 2008.

Brittany DalCais (So., Hewitt, N.J,) won her first outdoor pole vault title after clearing an ECAC-qualifying height of 11 feet, 7 3/4 inches (3.55m) on her final attempt to join her 2011 SUNYAC Indoor Pole Vault title. She is the first Laker women’s or men’s outdoor pole vault champion.

Damian Archie (Jr., Binghamton, N.Y.) earned points for the Laker men in the 10,000 meters after finishing sixth with a time of 32:42.79.

Katie Laris (Fr., Clay, N.Y.) finished one spot out of scoring with a ninth-place result in the 10,000 meters with a time of 42:50.31. Frank Risole (Gr., Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) also missed out in scoring after placing ninth in the hammer throw with a school record distance of 152 feet, 5 inches (46.46m). He bettered the record of 148 feet, 5 inches (45.24m) set by Cardon McKenzie in 1999. Risole came up just short of scoring in the javelin with a mark of 144 feet, 11 inches (44.17m) to finish ninth.

Two Laker men qualified for the 400-meter dash final as Matt Wagenhauser (So., Greenlawn, N.Y.) turned in the second-best preliminary time of the day at 49.19 seconds, while Andrew Baldwin (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) was eighth (50.66). Katie Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) clocked the third-fastest time in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.50 heading into tomorrow’s final.

Kristen Harrigan (So., Buffalo, N.Y.) placed 12th in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 5 3/4 inches (5.02m). Amy Hannahan (Fr., Camillus, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 2:31.57 in the 800 meters to place 19th. DalCais posted a time of 27.46 seconds in the 200-meter dash preliminaries to finish 21st.

Nick Reinsdorf (So., Niverville, N.Y.) turned in a time of 34:29.14 to place 15th in the 10,000 meters. Wagenhauser also finished 11th in the 200-meter preliminaries (22.16), while Brandon Comden (So., Holley, N.Y.) was 15th (23.00). Ben Sweet (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) placed 15th in the 800 meters (1:58.40), while Ryan Brennan (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) was 11th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.97 seconds. Jake Zaft (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 11.61 seconds in the 100-meter dash preliminaries to place 18th.

In the long jump, Christopher Bridgewater (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a distance of 21 feet, 3 1/4 inches (6.48m) to finish 10th, while Joshuwa Maiolo (So., Rome, N.Y.) was 14th with a leap of 20 feet, 4 1/2 inches (6.21m).
