Offense Breaks Out In Oswego State Field Hockey’s 7-0 Win Over Wells

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Kelly Collins and Ashley Fiorelle were a lethal 1-2 punch for the Oswego State field hockey team Thursday as both players were a part of every Laker score in a 7-0 victory over Wells in Oswego. Collins tied the school record for points in a game with eight on three goals and two assists, while Fiorelle tied the program mark for assists in a contest with three to go along with a goal. The win pushes Oswego State to 4-6 on the season, and Wells dropped to 1-8 overall.

Brittany Roetzer put head coach Brandi Ostrander’s squad out to an early 1-0 lead when she cashed in on a rebound near the left post after Express goalkeeper Madeline Bass initially saved a shot by Collins in the seventh minute. With 14:09 remaining in the first half, Collins made her way through the defense before sending a pass through the crease from right to left where Michelle Ruskey was waiting to put the ball in the back of the net. The Lakers took the two-goal lead into intermission.

Coach Ostrander’s halftime speech must have been effective in motivating Oswego State as Kelly Collins scored the first of her three goals early in the second frame. Senior Sara Budde was credited with an assist on the play. Collins completed the hat trick with her second and third goals in the 47th and 50th minutes, respectively, to put the Lakers ahead 5-0. Ashley Fiorelle fed both of Collins’ scores.

Oswego State was not finished, though, as Fiorelle got in on the scoring act with her second goal of the season after receiving a pass from Roetzer at the 66:03 mark. Budde tallied the game’s final goal after several Lakers crashed the front of the net as she got her stick on a loose ball.

Oswego State controlled the game recording 26 shots, while Wells managed just two. Laker goalkeeper Jamie Scharfe stopped both shots that she faced. Bass finished the game with 11 saves to suffer the loss.

The Lakers close out the home portion of their schedule on Saturday when they host Morrisville at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. missing or outdated ad config
