Excellus BCBS to Offer Free Health Insurance Screenings for the Uninsured

SYRACUSE, NY – Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is offering free eligibility screenings starting Monday, October 26, for uninsured people who need help finding a health plan that is right for them.

Excellus BCBS representatives will help people determine whether they are eligible for government-sponsored health insurance programs, including Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus, Healthy New York and Medicaid Managed Care. Eligibility for such programs is based on income and household size.

For Whom: Uninsured children and adults under age 65

When: Monday, October 26 – Friday, October 30

Excellus BCBS representatives, after evaluating individuals’ eligibility, can also help people complete the necessary paperwork. Appointments are not needed.

People who want to enroll in a government-based plan at the screenings should bring documentation such as their original birth certificate, Social Security card and proof of current income and residency (e.g., utility bill). Adults (not children) will also need proof of current financial resources (e.g., checking and/or savings account statement, etc.) to enroll.
