USOswego 2015 Provides Free Meals, Entertainment to Local Veterans
Members of the Oswego community showed appreciation for their local Veterans by attending two events created by local business owners. On Wednesday, November 11th, all veterans were invited to attend a free homemade breakfast held at the Oswego Alliance Church Community Center. On Friday, November 13th, the American Foundry hosted USOswego, which included a free USO-style matinee and dinner show for veterans. Non-veterans were able to show their support by paying to attend each event.
Doors at the Veteran’s Day breakfast opened at 7am and provided about fifty veterans with a free meal. The breakfast was made possible by a variety of people and organizations, including the Oswego Alliance Church, Dunkin Donuts, Tim Hortons, C’s Farms, Bosco & Geers, Koffee King, Hudson Dairy, Shawn Boshart of Oswego County Monuments, Paul from Mark’s Pizzeria and Red School House Maple. A number of Oswego State hockey players volunteered their time and made all guests feel welcome by greeting, serving, and chatting with those who attended.
The USOswego show consisted of two separate performances in the style of past USO shows performed for our troops. The matinee show began at 2pm and consisted of skits and musical numbers representing the 1940s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. In the evening, a complete turkey dinner was provided and was followed a second performance of the USOswego show. A few of the highlighted acts included the Abbott and Costello favorite “Who’s on First”, performed by Eric Cronk and Nelson Metz, “Captain Midnight Ovaltine Commercial” performed by Garrett Robinson, a Phyllis Diller stand-up comedy routine performed by Aleta Walborn, and “I Will Survive”, performed by Nellica Rave.
Both shows were guided by Master of Ceremonies Dan Dalin, and included volunteer dancers from Creation Studio. USOswego was made possible by Jen Gordon of Jump & Jive with Jen, Tammy Lynn Wilkinson of Theatre Du Jour, Matthew Wood from On the Porch Radio Hour, Nathan Emmons from Just Push Play Productions, Victoria Usherwood Gailinas of iHeartOswego, Phil Gailinas from iHeart Corp, and Kyle Cheeley from King Arthur’s Suites.
A variety of local businesses helped by sponsoring the USOswego event. Those local businesses includied Munski’s Auto Marine, Jimmie James BBQ, Anthony Pauldine General Contractor, OswegoCountyToday.com, Bames Wine & Liquors, Oswego Wine & Liquors, Cupcakers, Pizza Villa, Burdick Pearson, Mimi’s Home Cleaning, Northwestern Mutual, Stone’s Candy, Theatre Du Jour, Darling Elves, Jump & Jive with Jenny, and the staff at the Oswego VA Clinic.
If you happened to miss all three exciting events, you can still participate in the deals provided by our sponsors! Stop down to the iHeartOswego offices at 29 West Seneca Street to pick up a USOswego program and find coupons from Stone’s Candy, Bames Wine & Liquors, Oswego Wine & Liquors, Mimi’s Home Cleaning, and Pizza Villa.

Theatre Du Jour Serves Up “The Eight: Reindeer Monologues” by Jeff Goode!
The holidays are tough on everyone. The hustle, the bustle… so much to do…so little time! People to see – unrealistic expectations – and of course, bitter disappointments. We’ve just had our first snowfall and already we’re hearing the murmurs of holiday dread! Well, folks, if you find yourself with any of these grievances, any at ALL: fear not! You are not alone! The inhabitants of the North Pole feel your pain!
Santa’s reindeer are getting REAL in this satirical journey through the holiday season – offering their own dark, witty and painfully honest exposés about the North Pole, Santa and most notably: the *human* condition. They share ALL the dirty laundry – from simple gossip, outright jealousy, denied abuse, chaotic family dysfunction and a wide variety of mental illness.
The ultimate in smart-ass holiday entertainment for adults, this play will make you laugh, cry and even squirm in your seat. The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is a “sometimes shocking R-rated satire with a deadly serious message about sexual harassment and abuse of power by widely beloved authorities”. (Fort Worth Weekly)
So don’t let the bright & shiny cast of characters fool you… there’s a lot of grit and complicated truths under the surface here and they won’t step off their soapboxes til’ the fat man starts to sing!
Portraying the Infamous Eight are local veteran actors Matt Gordon, Liam Fitzpatrick, Jennifer Pearson, Moe Harrington, Nicholas MacLane, Jodi Bova-Mele, Brian Pringle and Stephanie Johnson!
The Eight: Reindeer Monologues by Jeff Goode, directed by Jordan Westfall, opens on December 4th at the Kallet Theater and runs again on December 7th at Bistro 197 and December 10th at The Eis House! Take a night out to commiserate with Santa’s “faithful” crew and really explore the more visceral side of the holiday season. Theatre Du Jour always delivers (just like Santa!) the best local talent & the best local cuisine… music & cocktail hour, photo booth and great prizes from JP Jewelers! For more information on venues, show times, dinner options and tickets – log on to dujourcny.com or call 518.253.6930 !
