New Grant Opportunity for Youth-Focused Projects

OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County announces another opportunity to support local youth! From now until Saturday, Oct. 31, its Department of Social Services’ Mental Hygiene Division is accepting applications for up to $5,000 in grant funding for youth-centered activities.

“There are so many challenges facing our kids today, and this program is another way we can show them our support,” said Oswego County Legislator Michael Solowy, District 24, chairman of the Legislature’s Human Services Committee. “We’re looking forward to funding projects that will benefit their health and wellness or otherwise enhance their growth and development into the productive members of society we know they can be.”

Proposals must serve youth (newborn to age 21) through activities planned to take place now through March 31, 2027, and located anywhere within Oswego County.

Not-for-profit community or religious organizations, schools, libraries and local municipalities are welcome to apply. All applicants must have a tax identification number and one applicant may submit more than one proposal, using separate application forms.

Projects must have measurable goals and make the impact of their proposal clear. Ideas include promoting youth safety, health and wellness; social development and family connections; school engagement and attendance; behavioral or substance treatment services; exploration of career opportunities or the development of independent living skills.

Grant funds cannot be used for religious or political initiatives, capital improvement projects, donations or fund-raising activities, or to cover staff wages or administrative costs.

Project invoices must be submitted by Dec. 15 of this year; however, project leaders have until March 31, 2027, to spend the award. A report on project expenses and impact must be submitted by April 30, 2027.

The grant program is administered by Oswego County government with funding provided by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
