This September The Oswego Players will celebrate families as they present the family Comedy “Father Knows Best”, adapted for stage by Kirsten Sergel based on a radio play written by Edward James. The show is based on the 1950s television series of the same title.

The show is truly family theater both in their content and in their cast. This is because; much of the cast consists of several members of individual families. A case in point would be the three members of the Gray family, with Jordan Gray appearing in the title role as Father and daughters Emily and Becky also appearing in the production.

Other families with multiple members include, the Snows, with director Jennie Snow, with sister Nicole as Stage Manger and Father, Ken as an actor and set designer. The Richmonds with Mother, Pam appearing as as mother in the production and daughter Emily and liz also involved. The Berlins Norm, Sonia and Norm III all appearing on stage, and the Tephenharts with Mother, Karen appearing with her daughter Julia.

The story, set in the 1950’s, opens with teenager Betty Anderson being asked out on a date for the by Ralph. However, After reading a newspaper story about teenage elopement, her father has decided that he’d better get acquainted with the young man first. He asks the family to stay home for the evening, but it seems that Bud, Kathy and even Mother have made plans to go out. Father puts his foot down and they all stay home The excitement and humorous complications grow and then, in the final scene, Father discovers that while he may know best, the young people know a little, too.

The show is slated to be presented on September 12, 13, 19, and 20, at 8 p.m. and September 21 at 2 p.m at the Frances Marion Brown Theater.
