“Warm Up Oswego” Pet Adoption Day

Submitted by the Oswego County Humane Society

On Saturday, February 5th, the Oswego County Humane Society will hold its “Warm Up Oswego” Adoption Day” at the Oswego/YMCA Armory, 265 West First Street, in Oswego, from 11 am to 2 pm. “January has been tough and February can be bleak,” says Lee Maniccia, President of the Humane Society, “And what could make a better remedy for the winter blah’s than a warm cuddly pet!”

Cats and kittens of all colors, ages and sizes will be a the adoption day and there will probably also be some dogs available. The OCHS mascots, Porky and Buddy will be on hand to greet visitors and there will be refreshments and treats for kids. Prospective owners will have the opportunity to choose and pick up their new pet after references have been checked. Those adopters who are interested in going home the same day with one of these pets should bring veterinary references and, if they are renters, bring written consent from their landlord in order to take the pet home. They should also bring a sturdy cat carrier. The adoption fee is $75 for kittens, $50 for older cats, and varying amounts for older dogs depending on breed and size. Discounts are available for multiple cat adoptions. Such fees cover a portion of the veterinary expenses that the Humane Society incurs. All animals have been spayed or neutered (babies will be spayed or neutered before they are released for final adoption) and each animal is current with shots and has also been checked for ear mites and parasites. Cats and kittens all have also been tested for feline leukemia and are litter trained and dogs have been tested for heart worm.

All of these animals have been rescued by the Humane Society, sometimes from difficult conditions. They are now living in private foster homes and are therefore well socialized. Foster families have the opportunity to report how well they get along with other cats, dogs and children. Pictures and more information can be located at the Humane Society’s web site at www.oswegohumane.org. For more information, call the Oswego County Humane Society at 315-207-1070.
