The Oswego State women’s basketball team put together a late second half run to defeat conference foe Fredonia 54-44, and extend its current winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon in Oswego. The Lakers held a slim three-point lead with 6:02 remaining, but out-scored the Blue Devils 11-4 down the stretch for the win. Kayla Ryan (So., Schaghticoke, N.Y.) paced the winning team with 10 points, while Fredonia was led by Caroline Hourihan and Katie Landy, who scored 14 points each.
After coming out of halftime knotted at 24, the Blue Devils registered the first five points for their biggest lead of the game two minutes into the second half with a jump shot from Grace Moore and a trey from Caroline Hourihan. The Oswego State defense stepped up to hold Fredonia scoreless for nearly seven minutes, while scoring ten points to grab a 38-31 lead at the midway mark.
Fredonia cut the margin to three with six minutes left before the Lakers scored nine of their final 11 points from the charity stripe, including Rachel Kohrs (Sr., New Lebanon, N.Y), who went 4-for-4.
