Francis E. ‘F.E.’ Cullen Sr., 82

OSWEGO, NY – Francis E. “F.E.” Cullen Sr., 82, of Oswego passed away peacefully Monday November 26, 2012, at St. Luke Health Services.

F.E. was born in Oswego June 11, 1930, to the late Dr. Thomas R. and Helen (Marsh) Cullen, Sr.

He was a lifelong resident of Oswego and was a graduate of Oswego High School and attended Oswego State University.

F.E. served in the US Coast Guard from 1951- 1954 during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Rockaway, NY, on Long Island.

F.E. owned and operated Cullen’s Liquor Store from 1956 until his retirement in 2002.

He loved his store and took great pride in its presentation, whether it be the window decorations of the season or the well kept flowers outside the store.

He was a lifetime member of the Oswego Country Club and cherished the friendships that were created there.

He was a lifetime communicant of St. Mary’s Church and had served as past president of the parish council. F.E. had served as president of the American Cancer Society and commodore of the Oswego Yacht Club. He was a member of the Greater Oswego Chamber of Commerce and the Knights of Columbus.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends onboard his cabin cruiser, “Impatient,” and traveled extensively throughout Lake Ontario both in New York and Canada.

F.E. is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan K. (Leland) Cullen; three sons, Francis E. and Deborah J. (Dean) Cullen Jr., of Syracuse, Timothy J. and Jennifer (Wright) Cullen of Loudonville, NY, and Daniel M. Cullen and Lorinda Fullington of Oswego; two daughters, Kathleen A. Cullen of Phoenix and Elizabeth M. Willams of Oswego and her former husband, MSGT Stuart Williams of Savannah, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Beverly (Wells) Cullen of Oswego; six grandchildren, Matthew Cullen of Syracuse, Gregory Cullen of Rochester, Jack Cullen of Hempstead, Long Island, Monek and Dominick Cullen and their mother, Yvonne Greeney, of Oswego and Alexis Williams of Oswego.

He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas R. Cullen, who died April 13, 2009.

F.E.’s family would like to thank all of the caring staff at St. Luke Health Services, especially those who helped F.E. move to the next step in his life, with ease and comfort.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
