Oswego County Winter Carnival Returns to Sandy Pond

SANDY CREEK – Calling all winter adventurers to the second annual Oswego County Winter Carnival!

Sign up for the Sandy Pond Ice Fishing Derby at the Oswego County Festival on February 9 and 10. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at the Sandy Pond Steakhouse on Wigwam Drive in Sandy Creek. Enjoy a flurry of activities from dawn to dusk on February 9 and 10 at the Sandy Pond Steakhouse on Wigwam Drive in Sandy Creek.

Make a solo splash or gather your friends and family to take the Sandy Pond Polar Bear Plunge at 1 p.m. on February 9. Come as you are or put on your best family-friendly costume.

First and second prizes will be awarded to the largest teams as well as to the individuals and teams who raise the most money.

“Best Plunge Attire” awards will also be given to the top two best-dressed individuals and teams.

Registration is $25 per person and includes a free “I Survived the Sandy Pond Polar Bear Plunge!” hooded sweatshirt.

Sign up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the plunge at the Sandy Pond Steakhouse.

Set your poles and tip-ups to bring in the winning catch in the Sandy Pond Ice Fishing Tournament!

Separate divisions for youth and adults each award first place in the pike category and panfish combo.

Registration begins at 6 a.m. on February 9 and 10 at the Sandy Pond Steakhouse.

The fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 per day.

Weigh-in takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. and prizes are awarded from 3 to 4 p.m. on both days.

Other activities include dog sled rides, a cross-country ski tour, and snowshoe beach walk.

Also enjoy the return of the “Chillin’ Chili Cook-off” and the Snowmobile Lighted Night Parade presented by the Pulaski-Boylston Snowmobile Club.

Later, dance the night away with the John Glenn Band.

All proceeds will benefit the Salmon River International Sportfishing Museum on state Route 13 in Pulaski.

Visit the museum to see hundreds of historic items on display; including homemade antique fishing rods, rare lures, reels, tackle and a significant library of books, watercolors and prints.

These exhibits were once showcased at the Gladding Corporation’s museum, believed to be the nation’s first sportfishing museum.
