Local Family Leads March of Dimes Effort to Improve Health of Oswego Babies

Oswego, N.Y. – The March of Dimes has been working hard for 75 years to ensure that the health of babies, children, moms and families is forefront in our community.

Locally, one in eight babies will be born premature this year, and the Stone family is working with the March of Dimes to change this.

Tim and Trisha Stone of Team Stella are the 2013 Oswego Family Teams chairs.

They became involved with the March of Dimes after losing their first child, Stella, in April 2004.

One of their family members was at the March for Babies that year and mentioned their recent loss.

To keep Stella’s memory alive, the Stone family decided that participating in the March every year would be a great way to honor her.

March for Babies, the March of Dimes largest fundraiser, helps fund life-saving research and educational programs aimed at helping moms have healthy babies.

This year as Family Teams chairs, Tim and Trisha Stone will help to recruit new companies and families to participate and lead the community in making a difference for the health of moms and babies.

“Babies are our link to true love and innocence. They deserve our help,” said Tim.

Oswego residents can sign up at www.marchforbabies.org and start a team with co-workers, family and friends.

The Oswego March will be held on April 28, a date that happens to fall on Stella’s birthday, at Breitbeck Park.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the three-mile walk kicking off at 11 a.m.

“We’re so excited to have Timothy and Trisha Stone on board to help us at a local level,” said Frank DeMeo, state director for the New York March of Dimes Chapter. “Their passion for the cause and commitment to helping our babies will be a huge driving factor in the success of our event. We are grateful for their commitment.”
