OMS Eighth Graders Earn Academic Recognition

OSWEGO, NY – The quest for “academic excellence” was achieved by several Oswego Middle School students.

The New York State Comptroller’s Student Achievement Award was presented to Derek Caramella and Olivia DeLorenzo.

As the recent school year neared completion awards were presented to OMS students by Principal Mary Beth Fierro, Assistant Principal Robyn Proud and the teaching staff.

This year’s New York State Attorney General’s Triple “C” Awards were presented to Dominick Donabella and Tianna Moxley.

The New York State Comptroller’s Achievement Awards were given to Olivia DeLorenzo and Derek Caramella.

The Oswego Middle School Academic Excellence Awards were presented to: Danica Aquitania, Sarah Smolinski, Benjamin Dafoe, Derek Caramella, Hannah Strzelinski and Jordan Runner. A half dozen students earned the OMS Home and School Association sponsored Academic Excellence Award for students who have displayed outstanding academic excellence during the 2012-13 school year.

Representing the Eight South Team were Jordan Runner and Hannah Strzelinski while Eight East saw awards presented to Benjamin Dafoe and Sarah Smolinski and the Eight West team was represented by Danica Aquitania and Derek Caramella.

Numerous special area awards were also presented.

Several students were recipients of the G.E.M.S. (Girls Excelling in Math and Science)  Awards given by the American Association of University Women as certificates were presented to Danica Aquitania, Haley Baker, Kelsey Cullinan, Olivia DeLorenzo, Emma Easter, Celia Fitzgerald, Sarah Fitzgibbons, Rachel Godden, Alexa Hardesty, Morgan Haynes, Lisa Kanbur, Kaleigh Laird, Rachel Leotta, Jenna McManus, Tianna Moxley, Abigail Mulkerin, Desiree Myers, Brianna Pfeifer, Madison Plyler, Mackenzie Rice, Alison Rodgers, Sarah Smolinski, Abigail Stewart, Hannah Strzelinski and Sophia Wood.

Lisa Kanbur, Faith Washington, Austin Attwood and Sarah Smolinski earned Spanish honors while for French recognitions were given to James Carpentier and Rachel Leotta.

Outstanding band members included Danica Aquitania and Connor Shene while outstanding chorus participants were Nathaniel Ahart and Rachel Leotta.

Meanwhile, the two outstanding string orchestra members were Natalie Chubon and Luke May.

Earning Physical Education awards were Jacob Caster, Carson Smith, Lisa Kanbur and Sarah Smolinski.

Art students recognized included Emma Easter, Liam Hill, Julie Tepfenhart and Joe Wallace.

Literacy awards were presented to Michael Allen and Marisa Kelly.

AIS math honors were designated to Jared Mills and Taylor Knopp.

English as Second honors were presented to Hannah Kozel and Jhensen Perez.
