Fishing Reports for October 27, 2009

This report a courtesy of Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning.

The following notice has been posted for Lake Ontario waters:
Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.

Oswego River/Lake Ontario report:
Oswego River report:
According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:
The water flow has been running higher the last couple of days. With levels as high as 9,000cfs, it has settled back to 6,950cfs as of this morning. This should move some fish around and work well for driftboats. There are a few salmon left but the main activity is trout. Throughout the river up to the dam, anglers are finding rainbows, steelhead and browns. Good baits to try are egg sucking leaches, egg sacs, Glo-bug yarn, crazy eggs, pink worms and fathead minnows. Nice weather is expected this week with the exception of a few showers on Wednesday.

Salmon River/Pulaski Area report:
According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters:
Well the rain dance for the weekend fell on deaf ears at we barely got enough to bring fish into the small streams, and it did little to increase the flows on the big rivers. We need water and fishing will really light up across the shoreline. In the meantime we continue to pound away on some pretty big pods of trout that are scattered through the river. Up top near Altmar fishing is excellent if you are in the right spot and very slow if you are not. The middle river has less fish but it seems there is a couple everywhere. Same bait is working -egg sacs and beads under floats and flies in pink and white seem to do the job.

According to the Douglaston Salmon Run:
Apparently it did not take long for the trout to get accustomed to the colder water. Anglers are reporting another banner day on fresh chromers. The lower end was on FIRE early this morning. We have now heard from anglers all the way to the Glide and the fishing is GOOOOOD!

Oneida Lake report:
The nighttime walleye bite has been good but anglers are finding it somewhat on and off – good one night, not so good the next. But overall it has been decent. The yellow perch bite is good using fathead minnows especially in shallow water but others are finding some in up to 30 feet of water. Smallmouth bass are also active in the lake.

Sandy Pond report:
There is not much activity on the pond at this time.
